Monitoring construction outside the building zones - Status report 2023

Outside the building zones, there are strict regulations for building. This is intended to prevent urban sprawl and protect cultivated land. The ARE regularly examines current developments.

In order to measure the extent of building and conversion activity outside the building zones, the ARE continuously evaluates various - also new - bases. In addition to the census data, other data sources such as the building and housing register and the land use statistics are also constantly being tapped. Both surveys come from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
